Specifying the contents for academic assessment is the keypoint of academic assessment. As the current mathematics curriculum reform in China puts forward new challenge for academic assessment, the issue of how to construct the system of contents for the academic assessment is in need of special concern. This research is trying to construct the system of contents for mathematics academic assessment according to the theory framework of Marzano’s taxonomy.
Analysis work in this dissertation falls into two threads. On the one hand, it clarifies the significance and purpose of this research based on a review of related researches on contents for the mathematics academic assessment. With the help of three principles of selecting the contents for academic assessment: the value-selecting principle、the discipline principle and the alignment principle, this dissertation analyzes the most important contents for academic assessment in mathematics learning from the perspectives of mathematics knowledge analysis、the mathematics learning process analysis and the classification of mathematics learning outcomes respectively. On the other hand, this dissertation illustrates the reason why Marzano’s taxonomy was assigned as the theory framework of this study, upon which, it analyzes the most important contents for academic assessment in mathematics learning. The dissertation closes with constructing a system of contents for mathematics academic assessment according to the framework of Mazano’s taxonomy: knowledge system 、cognitive system 、meta-cognitive system and self-system. The domains of knowledge consists of Information、Mental Procedures and Psychomotor Procedures. The Cognitive System consists of Retrieval、Comprehension 、Analysis and Knowledge Utilization. The meta-cognitive system has four functions: (1) specifying goals,(2)process monitoring, (3)monitoring clarity, (4) monitoring accuracy. There are four types of self-system thinking that are relevant to the new Taxonomy: (1) examining importance, (2) examining efficacy, (3) examining emotional response, and (4) examining overall motivation. knowledge system 、cognitive system 、meta-cognitive system and self-system. The meta-cognitive system has four functions: (1) specifying goals,(2)process monitoring, (3)monitoring clarity, (4) monitoring accuracy. There are four types of self-system thinking that are relevant to the new Taxonomy: (1) examining importance, (2) examining efficacy, (3) examining emotional response, and (4) examining overall motivation (Marzano,2007).The system of contents for mathematics academic assessment in middle school illustrates as following:

These assessment contents forms a hierarchical structure in light of their levels of cognitive processing. This structure helps us to understand the diversification of the assessment content and other issues of assessment.
In the end, applying the system of contents for mathematics academic assessment into the assessment practice was done by the author. The system was testified to be quite effective in the assessment practices, however, it needs more proof comes from experiment done by the mathematics education researchers.
